Addressing hunger and
food insecurity in Philadelphia
Our mission is to address hunger and food insecurity in the Philadelphia area by providing small grants to purchase food.
Founded in 1983 by Irwin Nat Pincus as
a Jewish response to hunger, the organization distributes funds on a biannual basis in the Fall and Spring.
Trusted neighborhood partners.
Our funded pantries and partner organizations are located across the city of Philadelphia. These nonprofits establish trust through their consistency, authenticity, and integrity. Many of those seeking nourishment come to the meal programs through word of mouth—a testament to the effective local presence of these grantees.
Committed board members.
Our board of trustees is committed to guiding a streamlined grantmaking process and to initiating communication with potential applicants. This allows grantees to spend their energies on getting food to families, rather than on cumbersome paperwork.
Responsive and innovative grantmaking.
Philadelphia is dynamic and changing. Philanthropy should be too. The Pincus Fund for Hunger Relief seeks to be both responsive and innovative in its approach to alleviating hunger. We recently updated our approach to serve food pantries and urban farms that tackle hunger.

“Thank you so much for
your support over the years.
Your kindness and generosity
is especially appreciated in
this chaotic and stressful time.“

At this time, the Pincus Fund for Hunger Relief is focused on funding organizations who are already within our network and strengthening our support of their programs.
